Apple Cider Mills Near Ann Arbor Plus Ann Arbor Orchards with Pre-Picked Apples
Some of the best cider mills in Michigan are in the Ann Arbor area. My personal favorite? Dexter Cider Mill. It’s also my daughter’s favorite and where she chose to take her UM friends last fall for a fall treat.

Tips for Apple Picking In Michigan
Different apple varieties are ready at different times. Apple season typically starts in early September and runs into October with the varieties changing by the week.
At this time of year, the weather can change quickly from cool to warm as the sun comes out. We recommend dressing in layers.
Whether you are apple picking or stopping at the cider mill, be on the lookout for yellow jackets. They love the sweetness of the dropped apples, cider, and donuts. If your family has allergies, be sure to bring your medication.
Most apple orchards provide (or sell) the bags to use for picking.
Be prepared for heights. Many orchards have low trees, but event with those you’ll need to climb a ladder or maybe lift the kids onto your shoulders.
Check payment methods before heading to the orchards. Not all local apple orchards accept credit cards.
What to Bring to a Cider Mill or Apple Orchard
Many cider mills will sell fresh apple cider by the cup, half-gallon, or whole gallon. Since we usually buy a gallon of cider, I try to remember to bring our own travel mugs.
