Blueberry Picking Tips

Be sure to check with the farm for current conditions before making the trip. Early or late in the season, farms often close early or for a few days to wait for berries to ripen.

What to Bring:

  • Dress for the weather. We have picked when it was hot in July and cool in September.
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Water – make sure to stay hydrated
  • Bring a container or use one of theirs. Some places charge for picking containers.
  • Cash or check. Some farms don’t accept credit cards.

Blueberries are a great fruit to pick with young children. Blueberry bushes are low to the ground and don’t have thorns like raspberry bushes.

Make sure to have a plan for what to do with your freshly picked blueberries. I always like to make blueberry waffles or pancakes the day I pick them.
